Das Seminar versteht sich als Vertiefungsveranstaltung über soziologisch relevante Lehren von Marx und Engels für Studierende mit Grundkenntnissen. Es geht dabei um folgende Schwerpunkte:
• Die Entstehungsphase um 1844. Aufgrund welcher Erfahrungen gelangten Marx und Engels zur Vision eines wissenschaftlichen Sozialismus?
• Die Lehre einer materialistischen Geschichtsauffassung. Warum soll man eine Gesellschaft von ihren ökonomischen Verhältnissen analysieren, und wie macht man das?
• Die Analyse der modernen kapitalistischen Gesellschaft. Warum ist die moderne Gesellschaft so dynamisch, warum ist ihr Reichtum ungleich verteilt, und was heißt „kapitalistisch“?
• Die Antizipation einer nachkapitalistischen Gesellschaft. Wie kann, wird, soll die sozialistische Gesellschaft der Zukunft aussehen?

Erwartet werden eine aktive Mitarbeit und die Lektüre der im Lernraum bereitgestellten Basistexte.
Eine Einzelleistung kann mittels einer Hausarbeit (12-15 Seiten) oder eines Referats mit Thesenpapier und schriftlicher Ausarbeitung (acht bis zehn Seiten) erbracht werden.
