This seminar examines how educational technologies are created and used in different global and local contexts. It explores the tensions between big tech companies and local educational technology actors, and looks at how new forms of technological colonialism and data extractivism shape wider patterns of life and work. We will also consider who should be held accountable for technology choices in education and discuss how to imagine and build more inclusive and meaningful futures of learning.
As part of the seminar, students will take part in international and regional events on educational technologies and postcolonial thinking held in Bielefeld.
By the end of the seminar, students will be able to critically understand how technologies shape educational practice and make informed choices about digital tools that fit their own teaching needs and values.

The binding module descriptions contain further information, including specifications on the "types of assignments" students need to complete. In cases where a module description mentions more than one kind of assignment, the respective member of the teaching staff will decide which task(s) they assign the students.
