Die antike Ethnogrie war eine Form des Nachdenkens über die Welt, die sich in verschiedenen literarischen Genera ausdrücken konnte und immer auf der Suche nach erklärungen für ie Mannigfaltigkeit menschlicher Erscheinungen war. Ihre Analyse eröffnet wichtige Einblicke in das Fremdverständnis der Griechen umnd Römer im Zuge exploratoroischer und militärischer Horizonterweiterung und sie sagt immer natürlich auch etwas darüber aus, wie sich Groechrn und Römer selbst in der welt verorteten. Im Seminar werden zentrale Texte (in Übersetzung) studiert und in den jeweiligen politischen ontext der Zeit gestellt
