Das Seminar wird sich mit Konzepten des Lebens und des Lebendigen auseinandersetzen. Ausgehend von antiken Klassikern (wie z.B. Aristoteles) und Lebenskonzepten des Mittelalters und der frühen Neuzeit (u.a. Paracelsus und Descartes) wird sich das Seminar zu naturwissenschenschaftlichen Lebensdefinition des 18. und 19. Jahrhunderts (Vitalismus, Kohlenstoff als Element des Lebens etc.) bis zur Gegenwart (molekulare Genetik, Embryonalforschung etc.) vorarbeiten.

Zentrale Fragen:
- Wie kreiert man Leben?
- Wo liegt die Grenze zwischen Lebendigem und Nicht-Lebendigem?
- Verhältnis Mensch-Maschine
- Wie untersucht man Leben?
