Das Seminar thematisiert Pflanzenwissen im späten Mittelalter und fokussiert die Beziehung von Text und Bild in Prozessen der Wissensvermittlung und -popularisierung in Handschriften und frühen Drucken. Es wird beleuchtet, wie Pflanzen in Text und Bild dargestellt und welche kulturellen, medizinischen, magischen und symbolischen Bedeutungen ihnen zugeschrieben wurden. Dabei verbindet das Seminar die historische Analyse spätmittelalterlicher Texte und Bilder mit einer praktischen Einführung in Transkribus, um historische Quellen digital zu erschließen und zu analysieren. Ziel des Seminars ist es, ein tiefes Verständnis für die Vermittlung und Verbreitung von Pflanzenwissen im späten Mittelalter zu entwickeln sowie erste praktische Fähigkeiten zur digitalen Erschließung und Analyse historischer Texte und Bilder zu vermitteln.
