Gewaltverzicht und Feindesliebe – wie von der Bergpredigt empfohlen – sind zentrale Motive christlicher Ethik, die im Laufe der Zeit immer wieder je aktuell interpretiert und in Beziehung zu realen Gewalterfahrungen gesetzt worden sind. Thema dieses Seminars ist einerseits ein ideengeschichtlicher Überblick über die wichtigsten Konzepte und Kontroversen christlicher Friedensethik, den es andererseits auf aktuelle Herausforderungen zu beziehen gilt. Denn die christliche Positionierung spielt hinein in die politische und militärische Debatte über "rechtserhaltende" Gewaltformen (Interventionen), präventive bzw. präemptive Verteidigungskriege oder den völkerrechtlichen Grundsatz der Schutzverantwortung (Responsibility to Protect), sowie auch über die diplomatische Verpflichtung zu deeskalierender Kommunikation. Wir werden die theoretischen Ansätze am Beispiel des Ukraine-Krieges debattieren.

Für einen vorbereitenden Überblick sind die einschlägigen Artikel aus der Theologischen Realenzyklopädie (TRE) zu empfehlen, insbesondere "Frieden" (Band 11, S. 599-646), "Krieg" (Band 20, S. 11-55) und "Gewalt/Gewaltlosigkeit" (Band 13, S. 168-184). Die Seminartexte werden in der ersten Sitzung vorgestellt. Darüber hinaus können selbstverständlich die einschlägigen Artikel in anderen wichtigen Lexika (RGG, EKL usw.) zu Rate gezogen werden.
