Politische Öffentlichkeit scheint gegenwärtig in einem doppelten Wandel befindlich. So lässt sich einerseits ein Medienwandel konstatieren, in dessen Folge sich politische Öffentlichkeiten nicht mehr primär massenmedial konstituieren, sondern zunehmend in das Internet wandern, wo neue Arenen der öffentlichen Aueinandersetzung entstehen. Andererseits scheint sich zugleich auch ein Wandel der Kommunikationsformen innerhalb politischer Öffentlichkeiten zu vollziehen, der sich in zunehmender Emotionalisierung, Personalisierung und Polarisierung der politischen Kommunikation ausdrückt. Vor diesem Hintergrund zielt das Seminar darauf, zunächst einmal zu klären, was politische Öffentlichkeiten eigentlich sind, um dann die skizzierten Veränderungsprozesse in den Blick zu nehmen und mögliche Zusammenhänge zwischen diesen zu eruieren.
