This course aims to provide you an overview about the meaning and understandings of "Culture" and about the dynamics of immigration and acculturation from social, cultural and political psychology frameworks.
We will read and discuss various topics on: Culture, cultural values and dimensions, cultural differences and similarities, social psychological processes of immigration and acculturation, intergroup (minority-majority) contact (and how to build sustainable group relations), diversity and multiculturalism, cultural discrimination and positive discrimination, strategies of acculturation/integration (is it always beneficial?), How can to challenge status quo in cultural inequalities?, and politics of identity in the context of immigration.
The course will be composed of i) Reading the assigned materials beforehand, ii) Listening to the lectures, iii) Joining individual and group discussions. It may include weekly lectures as well as block time slots during the Spring 2018 semester.
