220138 Sport seit dem 19. Jahrhundert: kultur- und globalgeschichtliche Perspektiven (GST+GSH) (SoSe 2017)

Ab Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts bildete sich heraus, was heute als moderner Sport bekannt ist. Die Ursprünge dieses Prozesses lagen keineswegs allein, aber vielfach in England. Schon bald jedoch entfaltete dieser Sport mit seinen Werten, Regularien und Organisationsformen, Akteuren, Kommunikationsmodi und (Körper-)Praktiken eine bemerkenswerte globale Verbreitungsdynamik, die sich im 20. Jahrhundert noch verstärken sollte. Das Grundseminar rekonstruiert seine Geschichte unter verschiedenen kultur- und globalgeschichtlichen Blickwinkeln, fragt nach Erklärungspotenzialen und -lücken der unterschiedlichen historiografischen Ansätze und sucht nach verbindenden Elementen zwischen der Geschichte des modernen Sports und moderner Gesellschaften.
