Mit dem Begriff der Erziehung rückt das Seminar einen der Grundbegriffe der Erziehungswissenschaft in den Mittelpunkt der Auseinandersetzung. Ziel des Seminars ist dabei einerseits eine Annäherung an Ideen von Erziehung, die die Pädagogik der Moderne prägen. Andererseits sollen im Seminar Ausgangspunkte, zentrale Problemstellungen und Grundannahmen moderner Pädagogik diskutiert werden. Hierzu werden Erziehungsentwürfe historisch-zentraler Werke der Pädagogik untersucht. Näher in den Blick genommen werden dabei insbesondere die anthropologischen Begründungen von Erziehung, die in den Werken entwickelt werden. Da Erziehungskonzeptionen stets einer Historizität und Kulturalität unterliegen, werden schließlich auch die gesellschaftlichen Entstehungskontexte der erziehungstheoretischen Ansätze reflektiert.
