Postkoloniale Theorien stellen die Sicht westlich-europäischer Gesellschaften und das hiermit einhergehende Wissen über Gesellschaften im globalen Süden infrage. Ein Ziel besteht darin, den Eurozentrismus und die Begrenztheit ‚westlicher‘ Sozialtheorien aufzuzeigen, also die Perspektivgebundenheit ‚westlicher‘ Wissensproduktion zu verstehen. Dies schließt die Frage ein, wie es vermieden werden kann, dass ‚die westliche Welt‘ zur normativen Vergleichsfolie für die Bestimmung von strukturellen, institutionellen und anderen Sozialformationen und ihres Wandels gemacht wird. Im Seminar wird in ausgewählte Ansätze postkolonialer Theorie eingeführt und ihre Bedeutung für die Soziologie ausgelotet. Wir lesen Texte von bzw. über F. Fanon, G. Anzaldúa, E. Said, G. Spivak, P. Gilroy, S. Hall, B. de Sousa Santos, H. Bhaba, I. Attia und anderen.
Im Seminar werden auch englischsprachige Texte gelesen; es wird eine deutliche Bereitschaft zur Beschäftigung mit dieser Literatur vorausgesetzt. International students are very welcome!
