Vor 40 Jahren veröffentlichte die Historikerin Karin Hausen einen Artikel zu Definitionen und Rollen von Mann und Frau im 18. und 19. Jahrhundert mit dem sprechenden Titel "Die Polarisierung der 'Geschlechtscharaktere'". Der sozialgeschichtliche Artikel gilt als einer der Gründungstexte der deutschsprachigen Geschlechtergeschichte. Viel ist seitdem geschrieben worden, unterschiedliche Ansätze wurden dabei ausprobiert. Im Seminar wollen wir uns mit ausgewählten Texten der Geschlechtergeschichte näher befassen und dabei Methoden der Geschichtswissenschaft kennenlernen und kritisch diskutieren. Zugleich werden wir die Geschichte der Geschlechtergeschichte rekonstruieren und uns mit historiographischen Fragen auseinandersetzen.
