220089 Gendering Global History (S) (WiSe 2026/2027)

Contents, comment

Gendering Global History introduces students to methods for incorporating gender into global and transnational history. The seminar focuses on the global history of feminism, with feminist manifestos as its principal sources. Beginning with Lucy Delap’s Feminisms: A Global History (2020) and Feminist Manifestos: A Global Documentary Reader (2018), students will choose a topic for their individual assessment and explore it in greater depth during the second half of the term.
As the assessment takes the form of an oral examination, we will practise skills such as developing an argument, formulating theses and relating them to scholarly literature and sources. Students will present their examination topic in a podcast, which will then be discussed in a 25-minute oral examination. The podcast may be produced as a group project.
The seminar aims to introduce students to a particular approach to history, help them deepen their understanding through further reading and develop their ability to present their knowledge orally.
The seminar will take place in the Flex-Seminarraum in X-E1-203, which accommodates plenary sessions, group work and individual work.
