Der Grundkurs bietet einen Überblick über die unterschiedlichen historischen Epochen der Kirchengeschichte. Im Mittelpunkt der Seminarsitzungen steht die Arbeit an Quellentexten aus diesen Epochen. Zur Vorbereitung auf die Quellenanalyse gibt es jeweils einen Einführungstext aus der Sekundärliteratur oder eine andere "Hausaufgabe".
Die Reformationsgeschichte und die westfälische Kirchengeschichte werden eine besondere Rolle spielen.
