„Künstliche Intelligenz“ (KI) ist in aller Munde. Durch tiefes Lernen (Deep Learning) erkennen Maschinen Bilder, empfehlen Musiktitel, schlagen Weltmeister in Schach und Go, und beantworten tagtäglich in Form von Sprachmodellen wie ChatGPT alle erdenklichen Fragen von Millionen von Menschen. Enthusiast*innen sehen in KI das Ende der Arbeit und die nächste Stufe des Bewusstseins. Kritische Stimmen sehen altbekannte Grundprobleme der KI-Forschung als ungelöst, und weisen auf neue ethische, politische und ökologische Probleme hin, die KI-Systeme aufwerfen.

Im Seminar behandeln wir grundlegende philosophische Fragen der künstlichen Intelligenz anhand aktueller Technologien wie Deep Learning und Large Language Models. Wie funktionieren diese Technologien, und was macht sie „intelligent“? Wie unterscheidet sich künstliche Intelligenz von biologischer Kognition? Und was haben eigentlich neue KI-Technologien mit Kapitalismus, Klimakrise und neuem Faschismus zu tun?

Studierende benötigen keinerlei Vorkenntnisse um am Seminar teilzunehmen, sollten jedoch bereit sein, sich mit technischen, ethischen und politischen Dimensionen von KI zu beschäftigen.

Requirements for participation, required level

Abschluss des ersten Studienjahres (beide Grundkurse, Philosophischer Einstieg und Philosophisches Schreiben), sofern Sie den Kurs nicht als Handwerksseminar besuchen.
