In der Vorlesung zur Sozialstrukturanalyse geht es um verschiedene Sozialstrukturkonzepte, Theorien zu speziellen Teilbereichen der Sozialstrukturanalyse wie Lebenslauf, Bildung, Gender, Familie, Arbeitsmarkt und soziale Ungleichheiten sowie um solides empirisches Wissen über den Aufbau der Sozialstruktur moderner Gesellschaften. Deutschland wird dabei in den Kontext seiner historischen Entwicklung und des internationalen, insbesondere europäischen Vergleichs gestellt. Über die Deskription der Gemeinsamkeiten und Unterschiede zwischen verschiedenen Ländern wie dem Wandel der Sozialstruktur innerhalb eines Landes hinaus geht es auch darum zu zeigen, wie Stabilität und Wandel der Sozialstruktur zu Stande kommen und wie man Sozialstruktur analysieren kann. Unterschiedliche Theorien und Methoden werden darauf hin verglichen, welchen Beitrag sie zu dessen Erklärung beitragen können, welche komparativen Vorteile sie aufweisen und inwiefern sie komplementär zueinander sind oder miteinander konkurrieren.
