Die Veranstaltung vermittelt einen ersten systematischen Einblick in die Medienpädagogik. Teilnehmende erwerben Kompetenzen in Theorie und Praxis der Medienpädagogik und eignen sich Fähigkeiten an, die sie für die spätere Vermittlung von Medienkompetenz benötigen.  Die Vorlesung regt zur Reflexion über medienpädagogische Wissensbestände und der Unterscheidung von theoretisch-konzeptionellen sowie methodischen Ansätzen an.

Für den Lernerfolg spielt die Sequenzierung der Veranstaltung eine entscheidende Rolle. Die Vorlesung ist daher in die Bereiche I) Geschichte und Strömungen der Medienpädagogik, II) theoretische Bezüge, III) pädagogische Handlungsfelder und IV) gesellschaftliche Herausforderungen untergliedert.
