Philosophinnen und Philosophen können sich auf unterschiedliche Art und Weise mit dem Geist und seiner Erforschung auseinandersetzen. Große Teile der Philosophie des Geistes beschäftigen sich mit dem Körper-Geist-Problem, dem Problem des Bewusstseins, mit mentaler Verursachung und anderen metaphysischen Aspekten des Geistes. Andere Philosophinnen und Philosophen betrachten Psychologie, Psychiatrie, Kognitionswissenschaft und Neurowissenschaft von einem wissenschaftstheoretischen Standpunkt aus.

In diesem Seminar hingegen geht es primär um die Implikationen psychologischer Forschung für philosophische Fragen. Als Seminargrundlage soll uns die neue, englischsprachige Einführung „Philosophy of Psychology: An Introduction“ (2021) von Kengo Miyazono and Lisa Bortolotti dienen. In dieser beschäftigen sich die Autorin und der Autor mit einer Vielzahl von Themen, angefangen von Willensfreiheit und moralischer Verantwortlichkeit über die Grenzen unserer Rationalität bis hin zu Autismus.
