300851 Vocal Identities: Gender and Race in Musical Performance (S) (SoSe 2020)

Contents, comment

This seminar will investigate the relationship between gender, race, and voice, focusing specifically on the singing voice. We will discuss readings from a variety of inter/disciplinary sources (voice studies, music sociology, ethno/queer musicology, critical race theory, trans* studies, etc.) and analyze musical performances. How are voices gendered and racialized? And what does identity have to do with voice and singing?
