Das Seminar stellt eine Einführung in den internationalen Diskurs um das Phänomen der interkulturellen Kompetenz und damit verbundender -trainings dar. Die Diskussion im Seminar wird sich vor dem Hintergrund der Kritik am Konstrukt der „interkulturellen Kompetenz“ und den gegenwärtig sowohl im gesellschaftspolitischen als auch im wissenschaftlichen Diskurs propagierten „interkulturellen Kompetenztrainings“ (z.B. im Rahmen der Lehrerbildung) entfalten und wird dabei auch andere Differenzlinien, wie Geschlecht, Schichtzugehörigkeit, etc. mit einbeziehen.
Dabei wird versucht, eine kritische reflexive Haltung gegenüber den, besonders für PädagogInnen, allgegenwärtigen Angeboten zur Förderung der interkulturellen Kompetenz zu stärken.
Das Einführungsseminar ist als bilinguale Veranstaltung konzipiert (deutsch/englisch). Neben der inhaltlichen Aufarbeitung des Diskurses in deutscher und englischer Sprache werden auch relevante sprachbezogene Aspekte der englischen Wissenschaftssprache thematisiert.
