In this class we will discuss connections between language use and different forms of power, and will concentrate on topics relating to migration, ethnicity, and gender. We will think about how language use creates, reinforces, or challenges power structures and how power structures are reflected in language use.
This is class is closely connected to Mahshid Mayar's class on "Language and Power: A Cultural Studies Approach". If at all possible, you should sign up for both classes. For your Studienleistung, you will have to complete and present a small-scale research project.
