220099 Rembrandt. Kunst und Ideologie (S) (WiSe 2018/2019)

Rembrandt Harmeszoon van Rijn (1606-1669) gehört zu den meistgefeierten, von Kunstsammlern und Museen hochbegehrten und zugleich zu den hochumstrittenen Malern des 17. Jahrhunderts. An seinem Werk scheiden sich Fragen des Geschmacks genauso, wie sich in der Rezeption die Anfälligkeit für ideologische Interpretationen zeigt – das auflagenstarke und nationalistische Buch Rembrandt als Erzieher von Julius Langbehn (1890) ist nur die Spitze des Eisbergs. Das Seminar verfolgt zwei Ziele: Es nimmt sowohl die Hauptwerke Rembrandts in ihrem kulturhistorischen Kontext wie auch ihre unterschiedlichen Interpreten bis heute in den Blick. Zu fragen ist nach den spezifischen Rezeptionswegen und den damit verbundenen methodischen und ideologischen Konzepten.
