Die Vorlesung bietet einen Gesamtüberblick über die Geschichte der Weimarer Republik. Im Zentrum der Vorlesung stehen die Fragen nach den politischen und gesellschaftlichen Modernisierungserfolgen, den strukturellen politischen Defiziten und dem Versagen ihrer Eliten. Die Vorlesung soll die wesentlichen Aspekte des politischen Systems, der außenpolitischen und außenwirtschaftlichen Handlungsspielräume, der sozialen Entwicklung und ihrer Bedrohung durch Antirepublikaner behandeln.
