Die Lehrveranstaltung gibt einen angewandten Überblick zu Analyseverfahren von Paneldaten. Ziele der Veranstaltung sind die Vermittlung von Fähigkeiten des Umgangs mit längsschnittlichen Daten sowie der Durchführung längsschnittlicher Regressionsmodelle.
Im Fokus der angewandten längsschnittlichen Analysen stehen politische Einstellungen und politisches Verhalten. Dazu gehören Fragen von politischen Einstellungsänderungen, Mobilisierung zu politischer Partizipation, wechselseitige politische Beeinflussung von Personen oder auch politische Sozialisation. Datengrundlage des Seminars ist das Sozio-oekonomische Panels (SOEP). Das SOEP ist eine längsschnittliche Haushaltsbefragung, in der seit 1984 jährlich Informationen zur sozialen Lage von Haushalten in Deutschland erhoben werden (https://www.diw.de/soep). Inhalte der Befragung aller Haushaltsmitglieder sind u.a. Bildung, Beruf, Einkommen, sozialer Teilhabe, Gesundheit oder Persönlichkeit. Die Verwendung weiterer Paneldaten ist grundsätzlich möglich (z.B. German Longitudinal Election Study, GLES).
Studienleistungen können durch wöchentliche Übungsaufgaben sowie Präsentationen (Referate oder Darstellung eigener Ergebnisse) erbracht werden. Die Prüfungsleistung besteht in einer Seminararbeit, in der eine eigene Forschungsfrage im Rahmen des Seminarthemas bearbeitet wird.
Als Statistik-Software kommt Stata zum Einsatz. Erwünscht sind Vorkenntnisse querschnittlicher Datenanalysen sowie Stata-Kenntnisse.
