Das Seminar beschäftigt sich mit der überraschend langen Geschichte von Plänen und konkreten Schritten zur politischen und wirtschaftlichen Integration Europas. Sie beginnt mit der Lateinischen und der Nordischen Münzunion und den deutschen Plänen für eine Mitteleuropäische Wirtschaftsunion aus der Zeit des Ersten Weltkriegs. Über die Paneuropa-Pläne der 1920er Jahre geht es zum Schumann-Plan als Grundlage der 1952 gegründeten Montan-Union. Der Schwerpunkt liegt auf der Entwicklung der Europäischen Wirtschaftsgemeinschaft zur EG und zur EU.

Abschluss des Grundmoduls Neuere Geschichte. Die Bereitschaft zum Lesen engslischsprachiger Texte wird vorausgesetzt.
