Die wahrscheinlich erste dauerhafte, bis heute erhaltene Fotografie zeigt den Blick aus einem Arbeitszimmer in Le Gras. Aufgenommen wurde sie von Joseph Nicéphore Niépce 1826/1827.
Fenster ermöglichen einen Blick nach außen, aber auch einen Blick nach innen. Fenster fluten einen Raum mit Licht, das wiederum Voraussetzung für die Fotografie ist, denn ohne das Licht könnte keine Fotografie entstehen. Sowohl in der Kunst- , Portrait- oder Architekturfotografie werden Fenster jedoch nicht nur als Lichtquelle sondern auch als Motiv genutzt.
Nach der Kameratechnikeinführung erforschen die Studierenden fotografische Möglichkeiten und die Wirkung des Zusammenspiels von Blende, Licht und Verschlusszeit sowie Bildbearbeitung am Computer. Ausgehend von den im Theorieteil betrachteten Positionen der Fotografie zum Thema Fenster werden die Studierenden in der Werkstatt eigene konzeptionelle Bildserien entwickeln.
