Looking at 'red' and 'black' political, social, and artistic movements in the 2oth century the course explores the dynamics of oppression, assimilation, resistance, and change that characterize the identity politics, the social activism(s), and the cultural production of indigenous and Black American movements in the Americas. The focus will be on the early part of the twentieth century and the turbulent decade of the 1960s/1970s.
