Im Seminar fragen wir, was „kultureller Rassismus“ ist, was er mit dem „biologischen Rassismus“ zu tun hat und welche sozialen Folgen und Funktionen er hat. Dazu gehen wir aus von einer Diskussion, die seit den 1980er Jahren läuft und kulturellen Rassismus für einen neuen, globalen und zunächst ideologisch unverdächtigen Rassismus hält, der in Folge der Delegitimierung des alten, biologischen Rassismus an dessen Stelle getreten ist. Wurden dabei nur biologisierte Vorurteile, Essentialisierungen und Erklärungen gegen kulturalistische ausgetauscht, aber die politischen und ökonomischen Funktionen des älteren Rassismus erhalten? Ist die Rede von Kultur nur rassistischer Wein in neuen Schläuchen? Was sind seine wichtigsten Quellen, worin liegt seine Kraft und wie wird er regeneriert? Sind die (westlichen) Kultur- und Sozialwissenschaften daran beteiligt? Diesen Fragen gehen wir historisch und soziologisch nach.
