Krankheit und Gesundheit sind zentrale Themen des menschlichen Daseins, wie zuletzt die Corona-Pandemie vor Augen geführt hat. Das Seminar fokussiert den kranken Körper im späten Mittelalter und untersucht auf der Basis unterschiedlicher Text- und Bildquellen, wie Krankheit und Gesundheit im späten Mittelalter in medizinischen, sozialen und kulturellen Kontexten verhandelt wurden. Dabei werden neben den humoralpathologischen Grundlagen die Seuchen des Mittelalters in den Blick genommen sowie medizinische Anweisungen für unterschiedliche gesellschaftliche Gruppen. Ziel des Kurses ist es, das Verständnis über mittelalterliche Vorstellungen von Krankheit, Körperlichkeit und Heilung zu vertiefen und weiterführende Kompetenzen in der Analyse von kranken Körpern in Text- und Bildquellen zu vermitteln.
