Interdisciplinary education
The degree programme offers a comprehensive education that combines literary, cultural and media studies with linguistic and historical approaches. This interdisciplinary perspective enables students to gain an in-depth understanding of French and Francophone cultures.

Comprehensive language skills
Students acquire a sound knowledge of the French language during the course of the degree programme. This includes both oral and written production as well as listening and reading comprehension, which optimally prepares them for the demands of later professional life.

Cultural and historical dialogue
A central aim of the degree programme is to promote an independent and academically reflective examination of francophone cultures, literatures and media. This enables students to understand and deal with current issues of intercultural coexistence.

International perspectives
The degree programme includes the opportunity to spend several months abroad in a French-speaking country, which offers students valuable intercultural experience and language practice. This international component is crucial for a comprehensive education and future appointments in a global environment.

Following their bachelor’s and master courses, as well as the subsequent induction period, teachers take on a varied, complex and socially responsible role. They shape teaching and learning processes, support and encourage pupils in their personal development, and empower them to shape their own futures as mature and responsible citizens. Career prospects are generally positive, as the demand for qualified teachers is set to continue into the future. Key factors influencing future recruitment prospects include the type of school and subject combination chosen, regional demand, personal mobility and flexibility, as well as decisions and priorities in education policy. Assessments of recruitment prospects are available, for example, from the Ministry of Education of North Rhine-Westphalia.
When choosing subjects, it is also important to take your own interests into account so that you can later teach the subjects you are interested in with enthusiasm. Furthermore, considering the age of the pupils in the respective types of school is helpful in making an informed decision.

Access to the Bachelor programme is granted to those who have a university entrance qualification suitable for Germany (e. g. German ‘Abitur’).
