Summary
A virtual driving simulator will be created with a dynamically adaptive landscape for studies on assistance systems for drivers.
Project Background & Aims
Assistance systems in the automotive industrie is one of the target areas of cognitive interaction technology. The design and evaluation of such systems, however, is difficult under realistic conditions. One approach, which shall be followed in this project, is the use of driving simulators to investigate user experience and to collect relevant data. The idea that is going to be tested in the project is that of an assistance system that follows the eye movements of the driver and may optimize the verbal instructions accordingly, depending on the objects or direction in the environment the driver is currently gazing at.
Project Description
The goal is to create a basic driving simulator with infinite landscapes that will allow us to implement studies to design and evaluate the automotive assistance functions. The simulation will make use of the HTC VIVE, a seat and a steering wheel. The HTC VIVE will be equipped with an eye tracking system. This will allow us to monitor the eye movements of the driver and provide verbal assistance in real-time that is adaptive to the current gaze focus of the driver.

The binding module descriptions contain further information, including specifications on the "types of assignments" students need to complete. In cases where a module description mentions more than one kind of assignment, the respective member of the teaching staff will decide which task(s) they assign the students.
