Nach Hobbes und Locke ist Rousseau der dritte wichtige neuzeitliche Vertreter einer politischen Vertragstheorie. Seine Überlegungen, die vor allem in der Französischen Revolution eine zentrale Rolle spielten, sind aber deutlich radikaler als die seiner Vorgänger: Rousseau fordert eine nicht übertragbare Volkssouveränität und hält einen allgemeinen Willen (volonté générale) der Bürgerschaft für möglich, der nicht auf den Willen der einzelnen Staatsbürger zurückführbar ist. Im Seminar soll Rousseaus Schrift „Vom Gesellschaftsvertrag“ gemeinsam erarbeitet und die Tragfähigkeit seiner Staatstheorie geprüft werden.
Im Rahmen dieser Veranstaltung können maximal 15 Hausarbeiten geschrieben werden.
