Kommunikation vermittels bedeutungsvoller Signale ist nicht auf Menschen beschränkt. Im Tierreich finden sich zahlreiche Beispiele für Signalsysteme, mit deren Hilfe man zum Teil komplexe und variable Information übermitteln kann. Bekannte Beispiele sind die Signalrufsysteme der Südlichen Grünmeerkatze (einer Primatenart) oder der Erdmännchen. Solche Systeme sind nicht auf Säugetiere beschränkt, wie das Beispiel der sogenannten ‚Bienentänze‘ deutlich macht.
Im Seminar wollen wir grundlegende Texte zu nicht-menschlicher Signalkommunikation lesen und diskutieren. Dabei wollen wir die Grundzüge und Eigenheiten nicht-menschlicher Signalkommunikation herausarbeiten und verstehen. Es wird dabei zu sehen sein, inwieweit diese Eigenheiten ein Licht auf Tierverhalten (Stichwort: Tiere und Denken) oder auf Grundeigenschaften des menschlichen Sprachvermögens (Stichwort: Sprachevolution) werfen können.
