220099 Der Völkerbund - Laboratorium einer globalen Ordnung? (S) (SoSe 2017)

Lange Zeit galt der Völkerbund (League of Nations) als eine gescheiterte Institution. Die neuere Forschung hat demgegenüber die vielfältigen Versuche dieser Organisation herausgestellt, politische Ordnungsimperative zu globalisieren. Wir beschäftigen uns in dem Seminar damit, wie League of Nations und die mit ihr eng verbundene International Labour Organization zwischen 1919 und 1945 versuchten, die weltweiten Wirtschaftsbeziehungen zu ordnen, ein Ideal „sozialer Gerechtigkeit“ grenzübergreifend durchzusetzen, Gesundheitsstandards zu verbreiten, kulturelle Kooperation zu fördern und die Politik der Imperialmächte einer vorsichtigen Prüfung zu unterziehen. Dabei werden uns insbesondere die vielfältigen Wechselbeziehungen zwischen diesen internationalen Institutionen und ausgewählten nationalen Gesellschaften interessieren. Zu diesem Zweck werden wir hauptsächlich englischsprachige Texte diskutieren.
