In diesem Seminar geht es darum, das historische Umfeld eines der für die Entwicklung des frühen Christentums außerordentlich wichtigen Raumes zu erkunden. Anhand von archäologischem, epigraphischem und literarischen Material sollen wesentliche Aspekte des Lebens in dieser römischen Provinz aufgearbeitet werden.
Teilnahmevoraussetzungen: Diese Veranstaltung richtet sich explizit nur an solche Studierende, die das Studium als Grundlage für ihren späteren Beruf betreiben; zwingende Voraussetzungen für die Teilnahme sind ein vorheriges persönliches Gespräch, gute Kenntnisse in Latein, Griechisch und auch Hebräisch, dazu in den wesentlichen modernen Sprachen, schließlich die Bereitschaft zur Übernahme umfangreicher Referate.
