The sonnet is one of the key poetic forms in the history of poetry. This class will provide both an introduction to this history and to the reading & interpreting of poetry in general. For this purpose, we will analyse a wide selection of texts from different centuries in order to trace important stages in the development of the sonnet in England. At the same time, we will engage with the theory and practice of analysing poetry in general.
All texts will be made availabe.
