230637 Borders and Identity Construction II (BS) (SoSe 2016)

Short comment

Comparative Approaches to Immigration

Contents, comment

This course examines U.S. immigration from various geographical areas of the world, including Latin America and Europe, from the nineteenth century until today. We will focus on contemporary migration via the US-Mexico border and develop comparative perspectives toward migration and border issues in other parts of the world, including Europe/North Africa, Central and South Asia, and the Middle East. We will discuss how US American studies and the study of immigration in fields such as sociology, anthropology, and political science are approaching the global phenomena of undocumented migration via increasingly reinforced state and international borders.
