The seminar begins with an overview of international comparative theories and reflections on general education and school characteristics. We dive into specific national education systems and explore each through exchanges with experts, gaining knowledge and a deeper understanding through a nuanced analysis of glob-al differences and similarities. Understanding the inner workings, structure, functions and issues of national systems is crucial for comparative education discussions, as it aids in contextualizing contemporary education within its political, cultural, social, and historical backdrop. The course emphasizes this aspect and places importance on theoretical perspectives and philosophical ideas in broadening this understanding. Furthermore, it acknowledges the challenges of comparative education research. Through these explorations we attempt a trip around the “education” world in one semester!
