392168 Projekt "Ultra-Mobile Virtual Reality" (PjS) (SoSe 2016)

Contents, comment

Language:
English or German, depending on participants

General Goal of the Project:
Ultra‐mobile Virtual Reality devices, such as the Samsung Gear VR, bring new and untethered virtual
reality experiences to a broad range of consumers. Content and applications for such devices are best
created using state‐of‐the‐art game engines, such as Unreal Engine or Unity3D.
This project will focus on the design and implementation of an Ultra‐Mobile Virtual Reality Experience.
The participants will

  • Review existing experiences for Ultra‐Mobile Virtual Reality Devices and extract basic design

principles

  • Learn how to develop VR experiences using state‐of‐the‐art game engines, such as Unreal

Engine or Unity3D

  • Design and implement a VR experience (exhibition, game, application) for the Samsung Gear VR

VR Experiences
Participants may choose one of a selection of VR experiences. Some of these will be provided by the
CLFVR team and may be rooted in current research projects. In addition to that, there will be a call for
VR experience proposals to which all master students of the VR course may submit their ideas to.
Procedure:
The procedure of the project is as follows:
Phase 1 (April ‐ May): Review of existing VR experiences for the Gear VR & Seminar courses on
development for Ultra‐Mobile Virtual Reality
Phase 2 (May‐July): Design & Implementation Phase
Phase 3 (July): Documentation: Product Video, Screenshots, Product Texts, etc.
Remarks:
As a conclusion of the project, a report will be written. This report will be in the shape of a product
presentation, including a video, screenshots, a short summary, textual description and a user
documentation.
This project may lay the foundation for many interesting questions or application problems which could
be addressed in a bachelor or master thesis.
