In der Transformationsphase zwischen Vormoderne und Moderne wurde die „Familie“ als soziale Ordnungskategorie umformiert. Auf der einen Seite bildete sich im 19. Jahrhundert die bürgerliche Kernfamilie heraus. Auf der anderen Seite blieben vormoderne Strukturen wirkmächtig, die in der Forschung unter dem Konzept „kinship“ gefasst werden. Das Seminar behandelt diese Dynamiken im 18. und 19. Jahrhundert aus sozialhistorischer Perspektive mit geographischem Schwerpunkt auf Mitteleuropa. Wir werden im Seminar theoretische und methodische Zugänge zum Thema erarbeiten und dann exemplarisch ausgewählte Familien empirisch untersuchen.
