Digital transformations over past two decades have had a profound impact on society in the 21st century, ranging across domains such as commerce, family, politics, or criminal justice among many others. For better or worse, buying or selling products, finding partners, taking care of children, discussing politics, investigating crimes, connecting with friends, or any other activity for that matter, are all deeply entwined with digital technologies. These changes have not gone unnoticed in sociology, where they are a popular object of research. The goal of the course is to introduce students to some of the key sociological conceptualizations of digitalization processes and to discuss important studies.
