In diesem Seminar wird es um die Säkularisierung als wesentliches Merkmal der Konstruktion der westlichen Identität gehen. Hierbei wird uns vor allem die Frage beschäftigen, was dazu beigetragen hat, die Säkularisierung als einen zentralen Schritt zur Weiterentwicklung von Gesellschaften zu sehen. Zudem werden wir uns damit beschäftigen, wie die Säkularisierung als Distinktionsmerkmal im Vergleich zu nicht-westlichen Gesellschaften verwendet wurde und wird. Wir werden uns in diesem Rahmen unter anderem mit Theorien von Max Weber und Ernst Troeltsch beschäftigen und diese kritisch hinterfragen.
