Medienpädagogische Fragestellungen in öffentlichen und fachwissenschaftlichen Diskussionen werden oft ohne Grundlage von Forschungsergebnissen diskutiert, da gerade bei neuen Medien entsprechende Ergebnisse fehlen. Zu der Häufigkeit der Nutzung Neuer Medien sind bereits zahlreiche Ergebnisse vorhanden. Zu den Auswirkungen von neuen Medien auf die Rezipienten und deren soziale und kognitive Fähigkeiten, sowie zur Bedeutung neuer Medien für Bildungs- und Erziehungsprozesse liegen dagegen z.Z. nur wenige Studien und Untersuchungen vor.
Die Klärung der Wirkungen medialer Angebote und Nutzungsformen ebenso wie die pädagogische Gestaltung von Medienbildungsprozessen sind Zielsetzung des Seminars. Auch soll das Seminar die zentralen Fragen der Medienpädagogik mit praxisorientiertem Bezug auf die neuen Medien, wie Smartphones und Tabletts diskutieren und kommentieren. In diesem Zusammenhang sollen Studien und Forschungsergebnisse zum Nutzungsverhalten, sowie zur Wirkung neuer Medien recherchiert und präsentiert werden.
