Vor dreißig Jahren veröffentlichte der haitianische Anthropologe und Sozialwissenschaftler Michel-Rolph Trouillot sein Buch "Silencing the Past: Power and the Production of History". Trouillot untersucht dort, wie die Aufzeichnung und Erinnerung von Geschichte durch Macht beeinflusst wird und wie umgekehrt Macht durch Geschichtsschreibung gestützt wird. In diesem Seminar möchte ich den dreißigsten Geburtstag des Buches zum Anlass nehmen, um mit Ihnen die Thesen und Aktualität dieses Klassikers dekolonialen Denkens für das soziologische Verständnis der globalen Gegenwart und den Zusammenhang von Macht und Geschichtsschreibung zu erkunden. Dazu werden wir zunächst das Buch lesen und gemeinsam diskutieren, um dann seine Thesen anhand weiterer Studien und (historischer bzw. aktueller) Fälle zu vertiefen (z.B. anhand nationaler Erinnerungskultur).
Das Seminar ist offen für alle, die an post- bzw. dekolonialen Sichtweisen auf die Gegenwart interessiert sind. Da das Buch bisher leider nicht ins Deutsche übersetzt worden ist, müssen Sie bereit sein, in den ersten Wochen des Seminars zumindest seine ca. 180 Seiten auf Englisch zu lesen.
Didaktisch ist das Seminar am Ansatz des "Student-Centered Learning" orientiert. Sie können (und sollten) durch Ihre Interessen die Inhalte und den Kurs des Seminars mitbestimmen.
