Dieses Seminar bietet einen Übersicht in die Struktur einer nicht-ingogermanischen Sprache, nämlich Cabécar. Cabécar wird in Costa Rica gesprochen und gehört der Sprachfamilie Chibcha, die durch einige Sprachen in Süd- und Zentralamerika vertreten ist. Im Allgemeinen ist diese Sprachfamilie sehr wenig erforscht und kaum dokumentiert. Die Einführung in Cabécar beinhaltet einige "exotischen" grammatischen Eigenschaften, wie lexikalische Töne, Nominalklassifikatoren und ergative Syntax, die eine Idee über die Vielfalt der Sprachen der Welt vermitteln.
Nach der Einführung in die Sprachstruktur werden die TeilnehmerInnen die Möglichkeit haben, selbstständige Studien in einem Korpus von Erzählungen (erstellt durch die Arbeitsgruppe Allgemeine Sprachwissenschaft der Universität Bielefeld) durchführen können.
