In diesem interdisziplinär konzipierten Seminar zum Thema Entwicklungsroman und Gender werden wir literaturhistorische und erziehungswissenschaftliche Perspektiven diskutieren, wobei komputationelle Mixed Methods der Textanalyse ein innovatives Analyseinstrumentarium darstellen.
Das Seminar beginnt mit einer Einführung in die Gattung des Bildungs- und Entwicklungsromans. In der Folge werden einfach zu erlernende quantitative und qualitative Methoden der Textanalyse eingeübt und angewendet. Mittels dieser Methoden des Close Reading und Distant Reading ist es möglich, Fragen an ein Textkorpus von vielen Texten zugleich, aber auch an Einzeltexte zu stellen, um so Muster auszumachen und Fallbeispiele auszuloten. So wird u.a. die literarische Charakterisierung weiblicher, männlicher und nichtbinärer Figuren in der Literaturgeschichte des deutschsprachigen Entwicklungsromans untersucht, wobei das historische 'Menschenbild' in Vorstellungen über Bildung, Entwicklung und Gender im Wandel seit ca. 1800 in den Blick genommen wird. Die Bereitschaft zum interdiscziplinären Arbeiten und zur Verwendung von Textanalyse-Software wird vorausgesetzt. Es sind keine Vorkenntnisse im Programmieren oder Digital Humanities erforderlich.
