In this class, we will investigate developments in the field of ludonarratology, the study of how games tell stories. We will read seminal publications in this field and will investigate new developments in game studies. A game studies workshop is planned for later in the semester in which students will get the opportunity to test out their theoretical knowledge in a more hands-on approach.
Experience with narratology and gaming is welcome but not a mandatory prerequisite for this class. Non-gamers are just as welcome as experienced gamers. A solid understanding of literary studies is required, however.

The binding module descriptions contain further information, including specifications on the "types of assignments" students need to complete. In cases where a module description mentions more than one kind of assignment, the respective member of the teaching staff will decide which task(s) they assign the students.
This is a reading intensive class that deals with complex theoretical frameworks. Students are expected to read secondary literature in preparation for each session and engage in class discussions and group work.
