Shakespeares Sonette sind ebenso wie seine Dramen vielfältig ins Deutsche übersetzt worden. Neben Übertragungen des gesamten Zyklus (als besonders prominentes Beispiel ist Stefan George zu nennen) existiert eine große Zahl von Versionen für einzelne Gedichte, die sich mit Gewinn vergleichen lassen. Der Schwerpunkt des Seminars soll jedoch auf der philologisch sorgfältigen Erschließung des Originals liegen. Gute Sprachkenntnisse sind dabei von Vorteil, gelten aber nicht als Voraussetzung. Mit ein wenig Mühe und dem kritischen Vergleich von Übersetzungen und Kommentaren lassen sich kurze lyrische Texte wie diese auch von Nicht-Anglisten gut erarbeiten. Eine Auswahl von Gedichten und ihren Übersetzungen werden auf Stud.IP bereitgestellt.
