Max Webers berühmte These zum Zusammenhang zwischen der "Protestantischen Ethik und dem Geist des Kapitalismus" gehört zu den bedeutendsten Interpretationsangeboten zur Religions- und Wirtschaftsgeschichte der Frühen Neuzeit. Obwohl seit Jahrzehnten diskutiert, gibt es bislang nur wenige Bemühungen, Max Webers These mit den Ergebnissen der modernen Forschung zum 18. Jahrhundert zu konfrontieren. Das Seminar wird hier ansetzen und in einem ersten Schritt Max Webers Text gründlich analysieren, um dann im zweiten Schritt die Bedeutung von religiösen Orientierungen für das Wirtschaftsbürgertum der verschiedenen Konfessionen und Denominationen anhand deutscher und schwedischer Beispiele zu diskutieren.
Die Veranstaltung wird im Juni gemeinsam mit Hanne Sanders von der Universität Lund durchgeführt und in dieser Phase in englischer Sprache durchgeführt.
