Die Auffassung, dass Lokales und Globales sich gegenseitig konstituieren und ohne einander nicht zu denken sind, hat sich in den letzten Jahren in der Globalisierungsforschung unterschiedlicher Disziplinen weitestgehend durchgesetzt. Eine genauere Betrachtung globalgeschichtlicher Studien zeigt jedoch, dass "Lokalität" dessen ungeachtet häufig als unterkomplexer, häufig gegenderter Gegenbegriff zum Globalen und dessen Dynamiken gefasst wird. Im Kurs werden zunächst unterschiedliche Konzepte von Lokalität in Anschluss an den spatial turn diskutiert, um dann in einem zweiten Teil ausgewählte globalgeschichtliche Fallstudien auf ihre expliziten und impliziten Raumkonzepte hin zu untersuchen.
